Ok – here we go. This is how you update your link – it's just a different way of thinking about it…
Because of the directory structure, the review process is primarily for fixing links that were added to the wrong category – i.e. The site has 6 administrators and one of them accidentally submitted a female listing in the male category. Another admin can come along and send the link to the new category for review. Then – another admin can review it and either agree – or decline the new category suggestion. This is how the system is supposed to work.
The deal is that you guys are not admins, but you’re not without permissions entirely. You can suggest a new category for your link. You can even edit your link and then send it off to a new category for review. What you can’t do – because you don’t have the permission set, is edit the link in its existing category. Because of the permission set registered users have, you’re not allowed to edit the listing where it sits, you can only make edits and send it to another category for review.
So you say, “Wait. I don’t want it in a new category. I want it where it is!” to which I offer this little work around that lets you do what you want and keeps it so that I don’t have to open the floodgates by giving admin permissions to everyone on the planet…
It’s called – get ready… The Sandlot… The place where good links go to be edited and where bad links go to rot and die. Just edit your listing. Send it to the “Sandlot” category for review and the edits will be made. No one will ever even see the link while it’s in the “Sandlot”. It's just a weigh-station for the link while we look it over and approve the edit.
Go to "My Account" then "My Submissions". Click on "My Submissions" and you should see your link submissions. To make changes, click "Review" then make whatever edit you want to your link. When you're done editng the link, look down the page to where the category drop-down menu is. Click on the drop-down menu and select the "Sandlot" category. Submit your changes to the "Sandlot" category and wait for an admin to update the link. That could be a few minutes, a few days, a few weeks. Hard to tell. It really depends on how busy we are. But we'll try to get to it ASAP.
If your link is in good order we'll approve the edit and your edits will take effect without your link ever showing in the sandlot. If you do something silly when you edited your link, or submit for a category you're not going to get into, we'll toss you in the sandlot until you fix your link or choose another category. It's a better option than leaving your link in the review queue, because the next and final option is to delete the link. This also applies to really bad link submissions that aren't fit for public consumption. So edit with caution or you could be there for a while.
Give it a try. It’s so very easy… It really is. |
